Un camion che, da circa 24 ore, trasportava ventidue cavalli provenienti dalla Polonia è stato fermato dagli agenti della Polstrada durante un normale controllo, all’altezza di Mogliano Veneto.
Gli animali viaggiavano in stato di grande sofferenza, privati sia di cibo che di acqua. Erano stretti l’uno contro l’altro all’interno del tir e, nel corso delle 24 ore di trasporto, non avevano mai visto il cielo o avevano preso una boccata d’aria. Ognuno di loro era legato con una corda al collo.
I cavalli erano tutti diretti ad un’azienda nel veronese.
Gli agenti della Polstrada hanno aperto il portellone del tir e li hanno trovati così, esausti e spossati, disidratati, senza neppure lo spazio per muoversi, infreddoliti dalle temperature che avevano raggiunto picchi di sei gradi sottozero.
Il camionista è stato immediatamente sanzionato con una multa da 8330 euro mentre gli equini sono stati presi in carico dal personale veterinario dell’ULSS e trasportati immediatamente in una riserva protetta del padovano. Resteranno lì fino a che non si saranno ripresi completamente. Ci si augura che poi non vengano spediti al mattatoio.
Nel frattempo, è stata aperta un’indagine per definire le eventuali responsabilità dell’azienda italiana presso cui gli animali erano attesi.

Bardzo chciałabym pojechac do Włoch(pozwiedzac samochodem), ale strasznie sie boje,że gdzieś na drodze zobacze takie transporty;( chyba serce mi pęknie
8330EURO? For what? All the transport, I guess.
I write from Poland. I just spent half an hour in the internet (and believe me, I’m an excellent researcher) to find actual price of horse meat. I couldn’t. I had no problem with finding price of pork or cuttle meat. Why? I guess, because we are ashamed of killing horses. The other reason – because in Poland eating horses is extremely rare. We can’t buy meat in the normal shop. I don’t know if there is any shop in our capital Warsaw selling horsemeat regularly. I know there is some of them in south part of Poland, but not many.
Do you know how much you can get for one typical horse, when you sell it for meat? Around 500-700 Euro. I know it because we payed 500 euro for 3 y.o. female, not very big one, once. This is price of the horse which you can ride. Some people breed horses just for meat – this can cost around 1200-1400 EURO. My frend who wors as a horse controller says that much more horses die in Poland because they are overfeeded than from starving (they stomachs broke!).
The main market for Polish horse meat is ITALY. Around 80%. Many sloughter houses have Polish/Italian owners.
I like Italy. I’ve been there few times. I WAS SHOCKED when I saw Gerber baby food with horse meat in your shops… I’ll write no more…
Please be aware of the fact, that untill there will be market, ther will be horses sloughtery and unhumanitarian transport. Every day.
I would never eat horse. I could eat dog meat if I had to, but horse – never. I’m a happy owner of labrador and I ride horses every week. I just can’t understand why in Italy, such “developed and civilised” you eat so many of this graceful, beautiful animals.
What you can do from my, Polish perspective, to stop this proces, is to promote not-eating horse meat. Make it unpopular. Uncool. When it will be less demand from Italy, there will be less transports and less killed horses.

Helena – what can i say? You are right. Italians eat horse meat. Not all of them, but culturally, they do. I am italian and i am vegan, but even when i used to eat meat i would not have horse meat. never did. it just wasnt a tradition in my family. sadly, there is still this horrendous market. and yes, there is still request. it doesnt surprise me – the slightest bit – that the main request for your horses is for my country. the romanian wild horses in the danube delta, too, are upon italy’s list. the point is, we’re not so civilized. and im not only talking about italians. im talking about all of us. humans. to me, as a vegan, there is no difference between a cow, a pig, a dog, a horse, a cat. we blame chinese people because they eat cats and dogs. we do the same thing with other species. no species deserves to live more or better than any other. all of this – all that we do to animals, in so many ways, every minute of every day – is shameful. and tragic. thank you for intervening, i really appreciate that. and i’m gonna tell you something else: if you come back tomorrow, in the morning, you’ll find some disgraceful news about this story. i can tell you in advance: those poor horses have already been slaughtered.
Heleno, konie kupowane na targu w Skaryszewie sprzedawane są po 9 zł za kilogram. Dorosłe konie, takie jak jechały tym transportem. Zakładając, że ważyły ok. 300 kg to transport został sprzedany za ok. 60 000, cena mięsa we Włoszech na pewno była kilkarotnie wyższa, więc kara niestety nie jest wysoka…
